Hurricane Helene Response:
Hope for the High Country
500,000 Meals
10,000 Hygiene Kits
3,500 Snack Bags
1 Very Busy Day!
Heavy rains caused by Hurricane Helene did immeasurable damage and created massive devastation in the High Country region of North Carolina. And, despite losing a store in the storm, our long-time partners at Queen City Audio Video & Appliances, led by the Player family (Roddey, Roddey Jr., and Kate Player) and based in Charlotte, reached out with both support and a big idea to respond to the suffering in this beautiful area of North Carolina.
On Saturday, October 12th, the Charlotte community turned out in force, with more than 2,600 volunteers joining the packing effort. In just eight hours, 500,000 meals, 10,000 hygiene kits, and 3,500 snack bags were packed for those in need around western North Carolina.
Additionally, more than 3,000 items were donated, with everything from bottled water to diapers, coats to blankets, and pet food to stuffed animals lined the walls.
However, the next phase of this effort now begins. Distribution. We're partnering with nonprofits and NGO's manning distribution points in the impacted area to make sure these items get into the hands of those in need quickly and efficiently. And again, Queen City Audio Video & Appliances has stepped up and answered the call.
Over the coming weeks, Queen City will deploy their delivery trucks into western North Carolina. Instead of the usual quality appliances, furniture, bedding and electronics that normally fill these trucks, they'll be filled with meals, hygiene kits, snack bags, and a vast array of much needed items.
This operation will come at a significant expense. And we're asking that you support their efforts and help them fund this effort. The cost is significant. Between fuel, labor and the costs associated with any trucking effort of this scale, making this possible will take the full community.
Please help make this distribution effort a success. 100% of every donation will go directly toward funding the distribution of meals, hygiene kits, snack bags and greatly needed supplies. All donations are tax-deductible, and will continue to make a difference in the lives of North Carolinians recovering from the impact of Hurricane Helene.
Thanks to all who served at the packing event, and thanks to all who continue to support this effort!
